Do you have a favorite, absolutely-do-not-want-to-live-without, perfect-fitting, wear-all-the-time piece in your closet? I do. It is a completely perfect heather gray cardigan. The sleeves are the perfect length and have not shrunk after a billion washes in the washing machine (cold water, of course). I will not mention brands which repeatedly disappoint in that specific area. Back to my sweater …I wear it with skinny jeans, pencil skirts, balloon skirts, flowy t-shirts, heels, flats, flip-flops, trousers and pajamas (with pajamas I am fully adorned with jewelry to impress my esteem). It is so perfect I often wonder how would I change it, if I could. Well, while I love the measurements, I would improve the fabric to one that never wears away and never creates tiny fuzz balls. I noticed those awful fuzz balls are on the way and, yes, I recognize I have washed it a gazillion times and even sadder, I recognize I should not wear it with anything but pajamas. Is there a fabric which can endure such frequent agitation in the washing machine and not create fuzz monsters. Further changes …I would include a sweater belt but not attached belt loops to the sides of the sweater – for versatility.
What is your favorite piece, the staple item in your closet? How would you change your favorite piece?
Men, we would like to hear from you, too.

My right “in the door, out of my outside clothes”… favorite pair of sweats with “South Beach” scripted down the side wins it. Everything about this says comfy…totally ruined waistband, fuzzy rolls down the legs, and a worn dark grey color that was once a happening bold black. I intend to wear them until they walk out of my closet on their own.
For me it’s a combo of my light blue lucky brand fitted jeans paired with my diesel78 brown boots. If permitted I would wear it everywhere… It’s a good look when I’m shooting around NYC.
For about 12 years I had a v neck cardigan hand crocheted from mercerized cotton thread (so it was very fine and lightweight) to look like lace. It fit perfectly and it hit me at the right cuff and hip lengths to flatter like crazy. It was cream colored and I got so many compliments when I wore it (which was often). I had bought it in Hong Kong from a store that sold Chinese crafts. Soon after I went back to buy more but the quality was no longer the same, the yarns they used were now heavy and bulky and the stitchery was also clunky—-I suppose what happened was that the craft was lost and the upwardly mobile workers no longer wanted to crochet sweaters that were so time consuming to make. It’s a pity. I wore this piece until it literally fell apart!
Feng Shui, your loss seems a lot greater than mine, yours was handmade in a fine material! Thankfully there is always another chance to gain a new favorite piece.
