Summer fruits are the best candy …the natural kind!
We frequent local farmers’ markets – such joy! For us, it is better than the supermarkets. We load into our vehicle, strap our excited selves in seat belts and begin to add to our already long list which we created days prior as things ran out. We add new items we want to try. We are thrilled our daughter finds it an event and loves fruits and some vegetables. She recently discovered she loves raw brussels sprout leaves in salads. She loves them grilled, too. Right now, it is time to go, again! We are running low; only one fruit bowl is in use and the refrigerator seems less colorful. Bunches of herbs are now scrawny, we are completely out of lemons, one more spaghetti squash, one more bunch of broccoli, one more bag of hormone-free chicken and the fish finished days ago! Just about everything is gone! Gobbled up! So much so we had to run to the local supermarket for a bunch of bananas yesterday. Since we prepare old-fashioned oatmeal without sugar, we like to add sweetness from fruits – and yes, we devoured the peaches, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries days ago. While raisins and honey are good options, fresh fruits and nuts simply look better on top of a bowl of oats.
Today, we cut into the watermelon. Simply delicious! And it is seedless so we ate without pause and it is large so we ate with greed. The remainder is chopped into medium-sized cubes in the refrigerator. They wink at us each time we open the door and each time we feel we need more. There is chocolate yogurt behind the freezer door which sits on the left of the refrigerator door – all we have to do is pull the handle less than 2 inches away…
…and we have not paid it any mind today!
Fruits are sweet gifts from nature! They are summer candy! Yum!

God’s bounty, garden fresh is definitely the best. Just made another batch of salsa with the amazing produce we have picked from the garden; tomatoes, jalapenos, cayennen – YUM! We love steel cut oats with fresh fruit and cream.
The salsa sounds delicious! So great you have a garden!!! Thanks for visiting.
indeed…fresh produce beats supermarket goods anyday of the week…….i have my own veggie garden……well worth the effort.
Your own veggie garden sounds amazing! Thanks for visiting and happy eating!
I love summer fruit, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries and cherries.
All of them peaches and nectarines…..lol
We do, too! We love them! Thanks for visiting and happy eating!
That looks delicious! I wish there were more farmers markets here. Thanks for droppig by my site
It was delicious yesterday! And still is today! Unfortunate to know there are not many farmers markets up there in Toronto – well, at least you have Whole Foods there! Thanks for visiting and we hope you enjoy today!
How i wish there are farmers markets in Singapore. It is so hard to get fresh produce over here. Most fruits and vegetables came unripe as they are being harvested too early and shipped here. Really envy you. Thank you for stopping by my blogs and liking them.
Oh no! That is unfortunate. We must say the foods you prepare look fantastically delicious! And your rosemary plant is huge! It’s great you are using what you can get your hands on to make awesome dishes! Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy today!
I like the nomenclature of summer candy. Good point- why should we eat hard candy when we can eat nature’s candy?
Thank you. We must admit there are times when a Snickers bar or other kinds of shelf candy beckon and we give in to the allure! However, we try to stick to the nature’s candy most of the time! And homemade desserts! We hope you enjoy today!
I would love to have the contents of your fridge right now.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are definitely the way to go. They are exciting to us, we are glad they are exciting to you, too. Liz, we thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit.
I LOVE grilled brussels sprouts! And, of course, watermelon- wouldn’t be summer without it. Farmers Markets are the best thing ever.
(thanks for stopping by my site!!)
You are so welcome. It seems we share some of the same likes, summer wouldn’t be the same without watermelon.
